Ellicott City, MD & Canada — The Alliance of Sleep Apnea Partners (ASAP), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, and the Global Sleep Apnea Support Community (GSASC), the largest (over 90,000 followers) patient-led online community on Facebook, announced today a new partnership focused on increasing awareness, education, and support for individuals affected by sleep apnea.
This exciting new partnership reflects a shared mission: to improve the lives of people living with sleep apnea by expanding access to reliable accurate information, strengthening patient support networks, and elevating public understanding of a condition that remains widely underdiagnosed and undertreated.

“We are thrilled by our partnership with GSASC in helping people living with sleep apnea to access medically vetted information and resources so they can be empowered to manage this chronic disease with improved health outcomes”, said Dr. Monica Mallampalli, CEO of ASAP. “We both share common priorities and interest in educating and supporting patients on their sleep apnea journey.”

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), the most common sleep and breathing disorder affecting over 54 million Americans and one billion people worldwide, is caused by repetitive periods when airflow is interrupted during sleep due to a narrowing or closure to the throat. It is linked to serious health risks including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and hypertension. Despite its prevalence, OSA often goes unrecognized, particularly among women, and many patients face ongoing challenges in diagnosis, treatment access, and long-term management.
“As a community committed to patient education and support, our partnership with ASAP allows us to better serve the sleep apnea community by sharing trusted information, advocacy initiatives and broader patient-focused resources dedicated to improving the sleep health outcomes,” said Stephen C. Holtzman, founder of GSASC. “Together, we aim to ensure that no patient feels overlooked or unsupported on their journey.”

ASAP and GSASC are both committed to working together to increase the visibility of sleep apnea as a chronic disease and to ensure that it is taken seriously by both patients and providers. Furthermore, both will work as trusted partners to ensure medically accurate information is available to people living with sleep apnea so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their family members. Both organizations also have a shared goal of supporting improved engagement between patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
