Policy Engagement

As a patient-oriented organization, ASAP champions policies that benefit sleep apnea patients, with the goal of improving health outcomes in patients. ASAP does this by submitting letters or policy positions to governmental agencies to influence public policy and regulatory decisions that affect the sleep apnea community.

Comment Letters

ASAP commented on proposed rule making by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)  regarding Medicare programs and services. ASAP provided comments on caregiver training and audio-only telecommunications technology and on services related to oral appliances for OSA.

ASAP submitted public comments on the proposed regulatory guidance concerning the updates to both the Medical Examiner’s Handbook (MEH) and the Medical Advisory Criteria. ASAP  shared concerns over the draft guidance and  urged the agency to consider ASAP's suggestions.

ASAP responded to the Agency for Health Care Policy Research and Quality in response to their draft  report on the long-term effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)  therapy. ASAP was concerned that the findings would be  misunderstood  by the payers, thereby impacting the care of OSA patients benefiting from CPAP therapy.
